John Maxwell has written some good books, but I think he really hit the ball out of the ballpark in the book, Thinking for a Change: 11 Ways Highly Successful People Approach Life and Work. Maxwell asserts that, if we change our thinking, we will change our lives. He examines the value of good thinking and the impact of changed thinking, and asserts that we can master the process of intentional thinking. I frequently tell my students that good thinking is relatively rare, because it requires a great amount of effort to think well. Maxwell echoes this statement, and provides several good examples.
Maxwell goes on to look at 11 thinking skills:
- Big-picture thinking
- Focused thinking
- Creative thinking
- Realistic thinking
- Strategic thinking
- Possibility thinking
- Reflective thinking
- Popular thinking
- Shared thinking
- Unselfish thinking
- Bottom-line thinking
Each chapter contains several good examples, plus provides exercises to develop thinking in each of the 11 areas. Because of its design, the book could easily be used by a Sunday school class, home fellowship group, or discipleship group.
This book earns a solid spot on my recommended reading list.
